Xenon Light

At BMW, the Xenon light III now replaces the conventional headlight with H1 lamp bulb.

An electric arc is produced in the D2-S lamp.

The Xenon light system is of redundant design as for conventional headlights, i. e. faults or damage in the area of one headlight do not result in malfunctions in the other headlight.

The high beam is still produced by headlights with halogen lamp bulbs and connected to the main beam.

The Xenon light III does not have self-diagnosis capabilities.

Caution!

Relevant safety and accident prevention regulations must be observed when conducting all tests and work on the Xenon light system. The Xenon light headlight system carries dangerous high voltages.

The entire system Xenon light III consists of the components headlight with D2-S lamp and the electronic ballast that is necessary to operate the D2-S lamps. The electrical ballast itself consists of an ignition and a control unit.

The ignition unit serves the purpose of generating the high voltage necessary for igniting the electrical arc in the lamp.
