The DDE control unit is informed of the position of the accelerator pedal by means of electrical signals generated by the pedal position sensor. The pedal position sensor is mounted on the support bracket for the accelerator pedal and is operated by means of a short bowden cable and pulley.
The pedal position sensor is designed as a rotary potentiometer and performs three functions:
The pedal position sensor which receives a 5 V voltage supply from the DDE control unit sends a measurement voltage back to the DDE control unit corresponding to the angle of rotation (range = 0° ... 78°). This control unit evaluates the measurement voltage and converts the voltage value into pedal position sensor setting as a percentage.
The idle position is detected within the range from 0% ... 12% by the idle switch in the pedal position sensor. The idle switch switches to ground with following functions:
|
Idle switch is |
Pedal position sensor < 12 % |
open |
Pedal position sensor >12 % |
closed |
Fault code 25 "pedal position sensor" is stored if the pedal position sensor is defective.
Consequence: Driving is only possible at an increased idle speed of 1200 rpm.
