The EGS control unit receives the signal for kick-down shifts via a line and a switch to ground. The switch must be adjusted such as to enable driving under full load, i.e. 100 % accelerator pedal position and the kick-down shift only takes place when the accelerator pedal is further pressed.
The signal for kickdown shifting is sent from the accelerator pedal module (FPM) to the engine management system. The engine management system converts the drive control and kickdown detection into a corresponding CAN bus message and sends this to the EGS control.
