The standard vehicle equipment includes two remote controls with integrated emergency key. The remote control is the access and driver authorisation for the vehicle. The transponder function for the EWS (electronic vehicle immobilization unit) is integrated in the remote controls.
The Car Access System (CAS) control unit contains the functions of the radio remote control, the ignition switch, the terminal control and the immobiliser. The Car Access System is the gateway module between the data buses K-CAN SYSTEM and K-CAN PERIPHERALS.
The signals sent by the remote controls are received and demodulated by the aerial amplifier. Following signal processing, the data is routed to the Car Access System (CAS) control unit for evaluation.
Up to 4 remote controls can be used.
The following keys are integrated in the remote controls:
Each the two remote controls contains a mechanical insert key.
An integrated accumulator supplies the power for the radio remote control. The accumulator is charged when the remote control is engaged in the ignition lock. It is charged via a 125 kHz interface in the ignition lock. The accumulator voltage is monitored by the radio-control key itself and transmitted across the K-CAN PERIPHERALS data bus to the central gateway module.
The emergency key is a purely mechanical key that is inserted in the housing of the remote control. The emergency key contains no transponder function for the EWS.
The emergency key is only intended for manual unlocking and locking the doors, e.g. in the case of failure of the central locking system. The locking cylinders on the doors and boot lid/tailgate as well as the lockable storage compartment can be unlocked and locked.
The scope of delivery includes an additional spare key with ignition lock adapter. The spare key consists of a mechanical key tooth as well as integrated transponder and it is significantly smaller than the remote controls.
The spare key contains the same functions as a remote control:
An adapter is required to insert and engage the narrow, flat spare key in the ignition lock. However, the adapter can be kept in the vehicle, as it is only required for the starting process.
The functions of the remote control central locking system are triggered by keystrokes on the remote control key or ID transmitter. If a remote control key is located in the ZAS and the transponder is recognized by the CAS, the CAS control unit suppresses all the remote control commands from any key.
When the CAS control unit recognizes the central double-locking command, the control module of the central locking system performs this function. The interior lighting is switched off immediately.
Pressing this key again within 10 seconds deactivates the DWA functions tilt alarm and passenger compartment protection. Convenience closing of the power windows is an exception.
Pressing the unlock key when the vehicle is locked unlocks it if the CAS is not coded for selective unlocking. The passenger-compartment lighting is activated by the power module.
If selective unlocking is coded, the first keystroke only unlocks the driver's door. A subsequent keystroke unlocks the complete vehicle. The passenger-compartment lighting is activated every time the key is pressed.
Dependent on coding, the windows and the sliding sunroof can be opened with one keystroke.
If the 'open boot lid/tailgate' key is pressed for longer than 0.5 seconds, the boot lid/tailgate is unlocked. On vehicles with boot lid/tailgate lift, depending on the last state, the reverse command is run while the key is pressed. An opened boot lid/tailgate is closed; a closed boot lid/tailgate is opened.
The delay time between operation and reaction of the boot lid/tailgate can be coded.
Depending on country version, the passenger-compartment lighting/panic alarm key is assigned the function
In the case of the panic alarm function, pressing the key for longer than 3 seconds triggers the DWA alarm. The panic alarm is cancelled by pressing any key on the radio-control key. This first switches off the panic alarm. Only a second keystroke runs the actual function.
In the case of the passenger-compartment lighting function, each keystroke causes the power module to switch on the passenger-compartment lighting.
Disabling remote controls
If a remote control is lost, it can be disabled via the diagnosis interface.
To identify the lost remote control, all present remote controls must be output via the CAS. The key numbers present indicate which remote control is missing.
The diagnosis service ”disable/enable key” can be used to disable the selected remote control.
If the remote control is found again, it can be re-enabled in the same way.
Emergency mode
In the event of a failure of the central locking system, the emergency key can be used for manual unlocking and locking (locking cylinders on the doors and boot lid/tailgate as well as the lockable storage compartment).
