The oil condition sensor extends the functions of the thermal oil level transmitter. The oil temperature and the oil level are determined as before and evaluated in the DME.
With the oil condition sensor, the electrical properties of the engine oil are also determined. The dielectric figure changes with wear and ageing. The dielectric figure can be used shortly after an oil change to determine the condition of the oil.
In the DME, the change in the dielectric figure is used to calculate the length of the oil change interval.
The signal is transferred across the BSD interface to the DME.
