Repair instruction

Repair instruction for noise from the belt drive or belt takeoff

Complaint

Knocking noises from the belt drive when idling. With increasing engine temperature, the noises become more intensive. The noises are no longer present as of approx. 1500 rpm. The knocking sounds are amplified by activating the air conditioning system or 'disappear' on switching off the air conditioning system, in some cases also takeoff of the belt of the air conditioning system (possibly without knocking sounds).

Cause

Vibration damper.

Note on noise localisation:

Removing a belt, i.e. in this case the outer drive belt (power-steering pump) is sufficient to remove the noise.
Replacement of the auxiliary components (air-conditioning compressor / power-steering pump or coolant pump) is not conducive to achieving objectives with this complaint!
