Repair instruction for 'grating noises at the seal of the door gap towards the roof'

Complaint

Grating noise while the vehicle is being driven on poor-quality roads from the area of the door frame at the top towards the vehicle roof.
When the side window is opened slightly, the noise is not present.

Cause

Contact surface of the door gap seal at the door window frame towards the vehicle roof.

The flock coating on the seal is negatively influenced by dirt and agents that contain silicone.

Repair instruction

For vehicles that already have a modified door gap seal fitted, proceed as follows:

  1. Clean the seal coating with silicone remover. See Fig. 1 and Fig. 2.
  2. Clean the contact surface at the vehicle roof intensively with silicone remover.
  3. Attach a transparent Teflon tape to the contact surface on the vehicle roof (paint).

Note

The contact surface of the door gap seal to the vehicle roof must be bonded across its entire width.

This means that a renewed replacement of the seal is no longer necessary!
