Tank coupling and fuel tank flap

Tank coupling

The tank coupling enables refuelling of the BMW Hydrogen 7 vehicle with liquefied hydrogen (LH2). The driver requests refueling with LH2 via the tank selector switch. Refuelling takes place manually. Once the tank coupling has been attached, the service station closes a current loop. Current can be fed via this loop via two tank coupling contacts.

Fuel tank flap

The position of the fuel tank flap is determined on the basis of three proximity sensors (Hall sensors). The fuel tank flap can be moved manual or by means of electrical activation of the fuel tank flap motor. The motor is activated with the full operating voltage of the CESG. With regard to the fuel tank flap motor, there are three possible states:

Component diagnosis

Within the framework of the test modules for these components, the following faults are covered: A defective partial vacuum in the tank filler neck leads to a rapid drop in the temperature at the ”temperature sensor, coupling”. Hydrogen mode (H2 operation) is then terminated.
