The semi-electric steering column adjustment enables the driver to manually set the steering wheel to a convenient position. Pressing the unlocking button unlocks the steering column. The driver can now adjust the length and tilt of the steering column mechanically.
Control unit
The semi-electric steering column adjustment function is integrated in the Chassis Integration Module (CIM). The CIM control unit controls the motor gearing unit for unlocking and locking the steering column.
Electric motor for unlocking the steering column
The gearing unit of the electric motor for unlocking the steering column unlocks and locks the steering column.
Button for locking and unlocking the steering column
Pressing the button transmits the information for the unlocking and locking of the steering column via the steering column switch centre (SZL), the BYTEFLIGHT, the Safety and Information Module (SIM) and the K-CAN SYSTEM to the CIM control unit.
An electric motor gearing unit unlocks and locks the mechanically adjustable steering column. A button is used for the operation in place of the switch for the fully electric adjustable steering column. The unlocking is permitted up to a certain vehicle speed. The Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) transmits the required value to the CIM control unit via K-CAN SYSTEM. The steering column is always locked. When the button is pressed, the steering column unlocks and locks automatically after a defined period of time without the button being pressed again. However, the driver can lock the steering column using the same button.
