Procedure following replacement of the steering column or CIM control unit of the fully electric steering column

The following steps must be performed after replacement of the steering column or CIM control unit in the order shown:

• Deletion of the position data of the fully electric steering column
  
• Deletion of the CIM fault code memory
  
• Initialization of the fully electric steering column
  

Brief description

When the steering column is replaced, the CIM control unit must learn the absolute limit stops of the new steering column. To do so, the position data of the old steering column is deleted and the new steering column is initialized. During the initialization, the steering column moves across the entire adjustment range in length and inclination up to the stop points. The new position data is adopted by the control unit.

When the CIM control unit is replaced, the position data of the fitted steering column must be learned. This takes place in the same way.
