Courtesy lighting

The courtesy lighting lights up the ground immediately in front of the closed doors. A lamp is fitted in each door handle for the courtesy lighting.

Brief description of components

LM Light Module

The light module controls and monitors the vehicle lights. Information is received and sent via the data bus K-CAN SYSTEM.

PM Power Module

The power module monitors the battery charge state and the quiescent current consumption of the car. The power module also controls the courtesy lighting when a request from the remote control (FBD) has been detected. Information is received and sent via the data bus K-CAN SYSTEM.

DM door module

The door modules register the signals of the switches and sensors installed in the doors and control the drives installed in the doors. The door modules also switch on the courtesy lighting. Information is received and sent via the K-CAN PERIPHERALS data bus.

K-CAN SYSTEM data bus

The K-CAN SYSTEM data bus is the data connection between the control units in the chassis and suspension, drive and body sections. Information is exchanged by means of data telegrams.

K-CAN PERIPHERIE data bus

Data exchange between the control units of the body area runs across the K-CAN PERIPHERIE data bus. Information is exchanged by means of data telegrams.

CAS Car Access System

The Car Access System (CAS) incorporates the functions terminal control, electronic vehicle immobilisation unit (EWS), remote control signal evaluation. The CAS Car Access System control unit is also the gateway module between the data buses K-CAN SYSTEM and K-CAN PERIPHERALS. The Car Access System controls all the higher-order functions of the central locking system.

Main functions

Switching on

The information from the remote control is implemented by the Car Access System and sent on the K-CAN SYSTEM data bus to the power module (master function) and the light module.

The power module has the master function for the courtesy lighting. This ensures the synchronicity of courtesy lighting and passenger-compartment lighting when switched on.

The power module sends data telegrams on the K-CAN PERIPHERIE data bus to the door module. The door module switched on the courtesy lighting.

Parallel to switching on the courtesy lighting, the light module switched on the passenger-compartment lighting.

Courtesy lighting and passenger-compartment lighting are switched on with the Soft-On function.

Note: If the button for the interior lamp is operated, the courtesy lighting is not switched on.

Switching off

The courtesy lighting is switched off

Note: Activating the interior lights and Soft ON/OFF function, see functional description for interior lights.
