Determining the battery quality using the PM power module

Determining the battery quality using the power module may only be regarded as additional information. The present inspection procedure, using the battery tester, is unchanged.

• Situation
  Until now, a battery could only be checked directly at the battery using the battery tester. On the E65 and E66 as of 09/2003, the power module contains software that enables you to obtain additional information on the battery status. (age condition)
  
• Description of the ”traffic light values”
  The possible results are
  
  • Traffic light value green
    The battery can be used without restriction
    
  • Traffic light value yellow
    The battery can be used under certain conditions. At temperatures or anticipated temperature below 14 degrees Celsius, the battery should be tested on accordance with the inspection procedure (battery tester) and, if necessary, replaced after consulting the customer. At temperatures higher than 14 degrees Celsius, the battery can remain in the vehicle.
    
  • Traffic light value red
    The battery can no longer be used.
    

• Description of the battery quality value
  The battery quality value is also only used to provide rough information on the status of the battery. The battery quality value is specified as a percentage. At 100% to 70%, the battery is ”OK”. Below 70%, reliable deployment of the battery is not ensured. The exact replacement threshold depends on the temperature.
