Oil condition sensor

Oil condition sensor

The oil condition sensor determines the electrical properties of the engine oil. This dielectric figure changes with wear and ageing, as well as with the oil level.

The primary purpose of the oil condition sensor in the S54 engine is to detect low oil levels and oil loss while the vehicle is being driven.

The primary purpose of the test in this test module is to detect any malfunction of the sensor. To ensure this, measures include an electronic oil level measurement which is then to be checked for correctness by means of the dipstick.
