Control-unit self-test, S54 engine

The program and variable memories of the engine control unit are checked regularly. If a fault occurs, a fault code is stored in the fault code memory.

Other components are also checked. The resulting fault code entries, however, may also be attributed to other faults or problems. For this reason, further information is evaluated in the test module in order to determine whether the problem really is a control unit fault.

In the event of such an authentic control unit fault, the control unit is to be programmed or replaced. In other cases, electrical engine components have to be examined more closely.

Even sporadic faults lead to an entry, but this does not necessarily involve a repair measure.

Note:

The replacement of a control unit may only be selected as a measure if this has been indicated expressly.
