Dynamic Stability Control MK60E5
As of 01/2006, a variant of the DSC MK60E5 familiar from the E90/E91 will be fitted in all Z4 models.

Sequence for replacement of DSC unit or DSC control unit
After replacement of the DSC unit or of the DSC control unit, the following work is to be performed in the following order:
- Coding DSC
On code the DSC, vehicle-specific data records are selected (e.g. size of the brakes).
Even if there are faults in the DSC, coding is normally possible.
- Calibration of steering-angle sensor
The zero point of the steering-angle sensor is stored in the DSC control unit. In addition, the vehicle identification number is stored in the steering-angle sensor and in the DSC control unit.
- Calibration of the DSC unit
The internal pressure sensors are calibrated and the valves (characteristic curve for the flow volume) are calibrated.
In the event of faults that affect the valves or pressure sensors, the calibration might not be possible.
- Venting routine for DSC unit
- Check for swapped brake lines
- Initialise Run Flat Indicator (see Owner's Handbook)
Replacement of DSC sensor
After replacement of the DSC sensor, the service function ”Calibration DSC sensor” must be run. The transverse acceleration sensor and longitudinal acceleration sensor are calibrated in the DSC sensor.
General notes on the DSC MK60E5
The software of the control unit can be updated when required by authorised dealerships in compliance with strict security and procedure rules.
The DSC unit contains 5 internal pressure sensors and valves with variable characteristic curves for the flow volume: so-called ”analogised” solenoid valves. The characteristic curves for the flow volume must be learned (calibrated).
Changes to the DSC MK60E5 in the Z4 in comparison with the E90/E91
- The longitudinal acceleration sensor is not integrated in the DSC unit, rather in the DSC sensor.
- The brake pad wear sensors are not read in by the DSC control unit, rather by the instrument cluster.
- Elimination of Softstop function.
