Steering wheel gearshift

Besides using the selector lever, a gear change can also be effected using switches on the steering wheel. Pulling one switch or both switches, also referred to as paddles, leads to an upshift and pressing down leads to a downshift of the gearbox.

Brief description of components

The switches are resistance-coded and are supplied with power by the SMG control unit. The switches on the left and right have the same functionality and are switched in parallel.

In the event of a fault, no gearshift is possible.

If a switch is actuated for longer than 15 seconds, the fault 'Switch permanently closed' is detected and entered in the fault code memory. If appropriate, point out this operator error to the customer.
