General module of ZKE V
The general module of the central body electronics ZKE V controls the following functions:
- Windscreen wipe and wash
- Headlight washer
- Power windows
- Central locking
- Antitheft Alarm System
- Interior lighting
- Load deactivation
- Remote control
- Additional as of diagnosis index 42 or 52 (deployment as of 03/2003):
Mirror memory, mirror heating and folding mirror
Two versions of the general module are available:
- High version (full equipment)
- Low version (without rear power windows)
Versions of the general module
The following development stages exist for the general module:
- General module with diagnosis index 40 (High version) or 50 (Low version)
Deployment up to 09/2002
- General module with diagnosis index 41 (High version) or 51 (Low version)
Deployment as of 09/2002
Redesign version with the following changes:
- Revised hardware
- Output for interior lights clocked to balance our electrical system fluctuations
- Additional output for consumer shutdown VA2 for control units
- Rain sensor can switch to wiper stage 2
- Adaptations to E85 Z4 and E83 X3
- General module with diagnosis index 42 (High version) or 52 (Low version)
Deployment as of 03/2003
- Same as redesign version but additionally with LIN bus for mirror function and for a central switch block
- Control of the mirror functions: Mirror memory, mirror heating and folding mirror
- Saving the mirror position in mirror memory
Power supply
Electronics
The voltage for the general module electronics is supplied via the 54-pin plug connector pin 10 (terminal 31) and pin 47 (terminal 30).
Load circuits
The load circuits of the consumer loads connected to the module are powered via the 15-pin plug connector.
- Pin 1: Terminal 30 for interior lights, wash pump, boot lid release and lights, load cutout.
- Pin 8: Terminal 30 for front power window drives.
- Pin 9: Terminal 30 for central locking drives.
- Pin 10: Terminal 30 for rear power window drives or electrically-operated vent windows.
- Pin 15: Terminal 31 for central locking drives and power window drives.
K-bus
General
The general module is connected via the K-bus to other control units. The general module receives and transmits data via the K-bus.
Among other things, the general module receives the following data via the K-bus:
- Ignition lock position (status of terminals R and 15)
- Windscreen wiper interval time from rain sensor
- Side lights (terminal 58) switched on
- Crash detection by airbag control unit
- EWS status (key inserted, key valid, etc.).
Diagnosis
In addition, diagnosis with the general module also takes place via the K-bus.
The diagnostic telegrams are routed from the diagnostic tester via the RxD link to the instrument cluster. From here the data are transferred via the K-bus to the general module.
Diagnostic data sent by the general module are routed via the K-bus, instrument cluster and RxD link back to the diagnostic tester.
LIN bus
On general modules as of 03/2003 (diagnosis index as of 42 or 52), an additional LIN bus is connected to the module (LIN = local interconnect network). The door mirror and a switch block for mirror and power window adjustment can be connected to the LIN bus.
Terminal R
General
The status of terminal R is registered both via the K-bus as well as via a separate line. This enables operation of ”terminal R-dependent” functions (e.g. windscreen wipers) even when the K-bus is faulty.
Encoding
General
Many functions of the general module are adapted by means of coding data to components dependent on options as well as different country-specific requirements.
After replacement, it is therefore necessary to encode the general module by means of the encoding program.
