Diagnosis instructions

In the E83 and in the E53 as of model year 2004, the all-wheel drive system xDrive will be fitted.

This system communicates permanently with the Dynamic Stability Control DSC8 and changed the drive torque distribution on the front and rear axles at the request of the DSC8. This means that xDrive reacts to detected tendencies to oversteer and understeer and increased wheelslip even in the initial phase.

Remedying faults and/or deleting the fault code memory

If problems occur on deleting the fault code memory following a repair, use the following procedure:

  1. Remedy fault with ignition off
  2. Ignition on; delete fault code memory
  3. Switch off ignition: wait 5 - 10 seconds, switch ignition on again.
  4. Delete fault code memory again

Important:

In some cases, indicator and warning lamps for certain faults only go out after a short test drive.
