Repair instruction for centre console heating up in the knee area

 

Complaint

Strong heating up of the centre console in the knee area as well as in the area of the decorative panel. The centre console becomes very hot in the front area (knee area). The problem only occurs if the heater in the rear is active, i.e. if the knurled wheel of the rear outlets is set to the maximum setting ”red” (warm).

A) Repair instruction for vehicles up to date of manufacture 14.06.2005

  1. Remove the decorative panel for centre console in accordance with repair instructions RA 5116212.
  2. Check that all sealing elements of the decorative panel have been fitted in line with accepted technical principles. See Fig. 1.
  3. Check that the sealing plugs have been fitted in line with accepted technical principles. See Fig. 2.
  4. Check that the MD adapter IHKA (deer horns) has been fitted in line with accepted technical principles. See Fig 3.

Note

To check and follow repair instruction 4, the centre console has to be removed.

Information to the customer

To reduce the heating up on the centre console in the knee area, the knurled wheel of the rear outlets must be set to ”blue” (cold). Other remedial measures are not possible (concept status).

B) Repair instruction for vehicles as of date of manufacture 15.06.2005

Information for the BMW dealer

Repair work on the centre console is not conducive to achieving objectives.

Information to the customer

To reduce the heating up on the centre console in the knee area, the knurled wheel of the rear outlets must be set to ”blue” (cold). Other remedial measures are not possible (concept status).
