The radiator with EAC sensor has a special coating made of manganese oxide that positively influences the reduction of ozone. This reduction in ozone lead to a sustained improvement in the ambient air.
The EAC sensor (Environmental Air Catalyst Sensor) can be used to electronically check the fitting of the coated radiator that is prescribed by the exhaust emission regulations. The EAC sensor is connected to the radiator in such a way that it cannot be disconnected. In the event of failure of the EAC sensor, it can be replaced once. If the EAC sensor fails again, it must always be replaced together with the radiator.
The EAC sensor continuously transmits signals to the engine control unit. If an uncoated radiator without EAC sensor is fitted after a defect on the vehicle or on the radiator, there are no more signals. The engine control unit recognises this and the emissions warning lamp is switched on.
