Besides using the selector lever, a gear change can also be effected using switches on the steering wheel. Pulling one switch or both switches, also referred to as paddles, leads to an upshift and pressing down leads to a downshift of the transmission.
The switches are resistance-coded and are supplied with current by the SMG control module. The switches on the left and right have the same functionality and are switched in parallel.
In the event of a fault, no gear shift is possible.
If a switch is actuated for longer than 15 seconds, the fault 'Switch permanently closed' is detected and entered in the fault memory. If appropriate, point out this operator error to the customer.
