Automatic opening and closing of the trunk lid/tailgate is offered as special equipment.
The trunk lid/tailgate can be opened using the control button in the vehicle interior, using the exterior trunk lid / tailgate button or using the remote control. It can be closed using the exterior trunk lid / tailgate button, using the interior trunk lid / tailgate button or using the remote control.
The trunk lid/tailgate is opened and closed by means of a hydraulic system. The hydraulic system is controlled by the trunk lid/tailgate module. In addition to the hydraulic system, an automatic soft-close facility (SCA) and an electrical rear lid release are also fitted.
The trunk lid/tailgate lift is self-diagnosable and works together with the Car Access System and power module. Exchange of information to the diagnosis tester is across K-CAN PERIPHERALS data bus.
The trunk lid/tailgate module control module regulates and controls the opening and closing of the trunk lid/tailgate.
On the trunk lid/tailgate module, the button is connected on the inside of the trunk lid/tailgate.
The power module monitors the operating status and the open-circuit current consumption of the vehicle. In addition, the trunk lid lock is controlled via the power module. Information is received and routed via the data bus K-CAN PERIPHERALS.
The power module controls the trunk lid lock and the SCA (soft-close automatic) for the trunk lid/tailgate. The exterior trunk lid / tailgate button is read in directly by the power module and routed to the trunk lid/tailgate module.
The Car Access System (CAS) control module contains the functions of the radio remote control, the ignition switch, the terminal control and the immobiliser. The Car Access System is the gateway module between the data buses K-CAN SYSTEM and K-CAN PERIPHERALS.
The interior trunk lid/tailgate button (in the light switch) is read in via the Car Access System and sent to the trunk lid/tailgate module.
Operating the exterior trunk lid / tailgate button or the interior trunk lid / tailgate button (with lid/hatch opened) opens, stops or closes the trunk lid/tailgate. Stopping or activating the hatch/lid is also possible in a half-opened position. Touching the buttons is enough for activation until the relevant end position (lid/hatch opened or closed) is reached. The drive is stopped automatically at the end position.
The direction of movement of the trunk lid/tailgate changes with every second press of the button: open - stop - close - stop - open - etc.
The trunk lid/tailgate can also be opened and stopped using the vehicle interior trunk lid/tailgate button. If the trunk lid/tailgate is moving, it is stopped when the button is pressed. If the trunk lid/tailgate is stationary, operation triggers opening. By means of coding, the button can be set in such a way that it corresponds to the exterior trunk lid button, i.e. closing is also possible.
The trunk lid/tailgate can also be opened, stopped or closed using the remote control. Briefly pressing (<1.6 secs) the button opens or stops the trunk lid/tailgate. Continuous pressure (>1.6 secs) on the button closes the trunk lid/tailgate as long as the button is pressed. Releasing the button cancels the closing operation and the trunk lid/tailgate is opened again. The time required for opening can be coded. By means of coding, the button can be set in such a way that it corresponds to the exterior trunk lid button, i.e. closing is also possible.
To detect the position of the trunk lid/tailgate or detect the opening angle of the trunk lid/tailgate, an angle of rotation sensor based on a potentiometer is used. Depending on the hatch/lid opening angle, a voltage value is output.
The hydraulic pump of the trunk lid/tailgate lift is driven by an electric motor that works in two directions. The two directions are activated with a relay switch.
A clocked semiconductor in an H shift gate ensures even motor speed over the entire voltage range.
The hydraulic valve controls the hydraulic pressure between the hydraulic pump and hydraulic cylinders. It is controlled from the trunk lid/tailgate module.
The maximum possible hydraulic pressure is built up in the hydraulic cylinders when power is applied to the hydraulic valve (valve closed). Only a low pressure is built up in the hydraulic cylinders when no current is applied to the shift valve (valve open).
The central locking drive is installed in the rear lid. It is activated by the power module and unlocks the mechanical rear lid lock. The central locking drive incorporates the rear lid contact, which signals to the power module the position of the rear lid lock.
The SCA drive is installed in the body. The SCA drive incorporates a position switch, which records the position of the SCA drive. The SCA drive is controlled by the power module.
It is no longer possible to open or close the rear lid when the hotel switch is actuated.
When the vehicle is unlocked, the trunk lid/tailgate can be operated using all the operating points and the remote control. When the vehicle is locked, the exterior trunk lid / tailgate button is locked. When the vehicle is secured, the trunk lid/tailgate can only be opened using the remote control.
When the trunk lid/tailgate is opened, first the trunk lid / tailgate lock is unlocked via the release drive. If the power module is informed by the trunk-lid contact that the lock is open (trunk-lid contact switches to ground), the drive for the soft-close automatic is activated. The drive is active until top dead center is reached and the position switch in the drive connects to ground.
At the same time as activation of the drive for automatic Soft Close, the power module transmits the information ”Trunk lid / tailgate lock unlocked” via the K-CAN to the trunk lid/tailgate module. The trunk lid/tailgate module powers the hydraulic valve and the hydraulic pump. The trunk lid/tailgate is opened.
The trunk lid/tailgate module detects the position of the trunk lid/tailgate via the angle of rotation sensor. Shortly before the end stop ”Trunk lid/tailgate opened” is reached, the trunk lid/tailgate speed is reduced and the trunk lid/tailgate moves slowly into the end position.
If the control button is pressed again during the opening procedure, the operation is interrupted. If the control button is then pressed again, the closing operation is carried out.
To close the trunk lid/tailgate, the direction of rotation of the hydraulic pump is changed.
Shortly before the ”Trunk lid/tailgate closed” position is reached, the trunk lid/tailgate speed is reduced and the trunk lid/tailgate falls slowly into the trunk lid / tailgate lock. The trunk-lid contact opens and the power module activates the drive for automatic Soft Close. The position switch in the SCA drive opens at bottom dead center. The drive stops. The trunk lid / tailgate lock is locked.
The trunk lid/tailgate speed is known due to the continuous evaluation of the angle sensor. This speed is compared to the travel-time curve stored in the module. If this speed is lower than the specified value, the trunk lid/tailgate is stopped (blockage identification).
A repeat lock facility prevents the hydraulic pump overheating. The pump is switched off for approx. six minutes if it was in operation for longer than two minutes within a short space of time. Only when this waiting period has elapsed is the operation of the pump re-enabled.
Malfunctions
Under certain operation conditions such as starting motor operation, undervoltage, extreme temperatures or vehicle speed, movement of the trunk lid/tailgate is disabled.
When the button signal is continuously present via the bus or signal input (button jammed), the trunk lid/tailgate does not move.
Emergency mode
In the event of system failure, the trunk lid/tailgate can be opened and closed manually by exerting little pressure because the hydraulic valve is open.
Switching off the drive for automatic Soft Close
If the power module does not detect that the drive for automatic Soft Close has reached the upper or lower dead center, the drive is switched off after 5 seconds. A fault is stored in the fault memory.
The functional sequence starts again when a signal change is signalled by the rear lid contact.
Antirepeat device of the drive for automatic Soft Close
An anti-repeat circuit prevents electronic components in the control module from overheating. The antirepeat device permits a maximum of 15 activations of the drive for automatic Soft Close in succession.
